The Local Windermere Area
A Wonderful Part of the Lake District To Explore
Oakbank House B&B is well located for exploring the Lake District National Park. We are a short stroll from the centre of Bowness-on-Windermere with it shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants.
Lake Windermere can be seen from some of our rooms - boat hire, windsurfing, sailing, rowing boats, powered boats and Winderemere Lake Cruises are available. We're also close to the car and pedestrian ferry across the lake to Near and Far Sawray for Beatrix Potter attractions as well as the picturesque village of Hawkeshead and walking along the western shore of Windermere including Claife Heights for stunning views of the lake.
We're a short drive from Ambleside - visit the famous Bridge House and Stagshaw Gardens. Lake cruises on Windermere are available from here too. Many great walks fell start from Ambleside including the Fairfield Horseshoe and Wansfell (for stunning views of Windermere).
Kirkstone Pass & Ullswater
For an exciting drive out, follow the A592 over Kirkstone Pass (1489 feet) to Brotherswater and Ullswater (famous for its Ullswater Steamers). Stunning views, a challenging road and a pub for lunch at the top (Kirkstone Pass Inn). Or stop and take to the fells.
Grasmere & Rydal Water
Grasmere and Rydal Water are a short drive north - take a stoll around the two picturesque lakes or and visit the famous Gingerbread Shop in Grasmere Village.
Fell Walking in Langdale
The stunning valley of Langdale - a very popular area with walkers and climbers alike on the famous Langdale Pikes. The quintessential Lakeland view. Easy walks along the valley floor and Blea Tarn or for the more adventurous, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell, Harrison Stickle and Pavey Ark via Stickle Tarn.
There is also the Lakeland Motor Museum at Backbarrow near Ulverston - well worth a visit.
Relax and Enjoy Your Stay
We aim to make you feel welcome and relaxed throughout your stay and our attention to detail and friendly hospitality will make you want to return time and again in the future.
Our bed and breakfast guest house is well connected with the rest of the Lake District National Park: The Lake District is served by the Virgin Trains network (London Euston to Oxenholme is only 2 hours 45 minutes). Windemere railway station connects us with Manchester and Preston; local buses connect us to the rest of this beautiful landscape.
